Website helps consumers cut energy costs
A Greater Manchester website is helping consumers make savings on their utilities bills.
With so many companies bombarding householders with offers of the "cheapest" quote, www.saveonyourbills.co.uk hopes to help consumers find their feet in such a volatile market.
Around 25,000 people a week change their gas or electricity supplier and even then, they may not find the best deal for them.
Before visiting the free website, consumers should have first contacted their current suppliers so see when their existing contract expires. By supplying details of your annual consumption based on old bills - your preferred method of payment and type of contract, the sites database of companies returns details of the most competitive up-to-date quotes.
The portal was launched in September 2000 by a group of businessmen looking to capitalise on energy markets for both the domestic and business users.
Two years on, its creators reckon they've saved the consumer in excess of 500,000 on their energy bills.
Overpaying
Director Richard George, said: "It is estimated that over 19 million households in the UK are still paying over the odds for their gas and electricity."
And a recent Commons committee said you would need a degree in maths to work out the best energy deals.
